Pulsebreaker – Demo Impressions

Wow, the Pulsebreaker demo really impressed me. If we start with the typical aspects of a classic Resident Evil survival-horror clone, it has everything that is needed. The game has a moody, short outbreak story, a dirty urban location to navigate, and zombies that just feel right for the genre. However, what Pulsebreaker also has is a somewhat innovative skill-based combat system, on top of the standard stop-and-shoot approach.

HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon – Demo Impressions

Welcome to the grey hellscape that is Earth—at least, that’s how I understand it. Our dear Earth has been completely ravaged by a group of demon lords, hell-bent on turning our blue little planet to into a pile of ash. But don’t fret—the mystical (good?) demon is here to provide humanity with one final chance (aka you)! HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon is a turn-based dungeon crawler that works as a blobber of one. So no party—it’s solo time, baby!

Currently Playing: Vultures: Scavengers of Death [Almost a Review]

After reaching about the halfway point of the new release Vultures: Scavengers of Death, I decided to make an appreciation post in favor of the game. The reason: It’s a pretty good indie game, and it’s probably the best iteration for anyone looking for the classic Resident Evil feeling, where mood and atmosphere have been captured splendidly—and it’s not even in the same gameplay genre! So, read this article from someone who is currently knee-high in zombies—meaning, don’t take it as a full review. Here goes.

Singularity – In Mother Russia, Time Clocks You [Review]

Welcome to Singularity, a game with serious time shenanigans, horrible mutants with a taste for human flesh, and masses of Soviet soldiers out to kill you—both futuristic and classic brown-shirted ones from the past. The plot isn’t overly complicated, but it’s a bit of a mess when you start to think about it, especially if you are sensitive to media tackling time travel. However, being a Call of Duty style shooter, you don’t actually have to give that much of thought, since you are here to blast things to kingdom come—regardless of which timeline the enemy belongs to.

Dead Space: Ignition – Puzzle Engineer [Review]

In space, nobody can hear you puzzle! Just recently, I bought this little spin-off called Dead Space: Ignition on the Microsoft game store for the Xbox 360. Yes, original hardware this time around. It was pretty cheap, around four euros for me, so not too much of an investment regardless of how it now turns out. The main reason for my purchase is that I am a Dead Space lore junkie, loving most of the franchise thanks to its cool dystopian sci-fi setting, and of course: horrifying monsters ready to slice off your skin with precision.

Considering what it’s part of, you might expect limb-cutting and body-horror coming out the ears, but nope. This is surprisingly enough a puzzler, best described as a game with typical mini-games at the forefront with an animated comic attached.
