Trespasser: Jurassic Park’s Biggest Failure? – A History [Video]

Trespasser could be one of the most mythical games to me thanks to its theme (Jurassic Park), year of release (in my youth), and the general mysterious feel of the game. I’m glad the excellent YouTuber Monotonal Lizard | MNTM is here to pull back the curtains and let the sunlight in to demystify the game. However, only to a certain degree. After sitting through his six-hour mastodon project, I still feel Trespasser is surrounded by mystique, despite its clear, heavy faults. Watch the in-depth retrospective after the jump, and beyond going over gameplay and plot, it’s filled to the brim with fascinating development information too!

The Lost World: Jurassic Park – Who Is the Real Bad Guy? [Film Deep Dive]

In Steven Spielberg’s sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park—who truly is the bad guy? I will give you a hint. It’s not the new CEO of InGen, Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard)—he is actually one of the main victims in the film. I will explain.

Outside of what we will talk about, The Lost World isn’t that great, especially not as a Jurassic Park movie. It has a few cool scenes, like the camper on the cliff, but overall, I found it to be a cynical movie—that strays from the original’s theme. The book is very similar in this style, too, surprisingly. But since I’m not here to exactly review the film, nor the book, let’s get going.

Theropods – Demo Impressions

Apparently 2025 is the year of retro styled dinosaur games, with Theropods being the third I cover this year. The others are Primal Planet (out now!), and Dinolords (coming in early access, this year or the next). This is great for dino-lovers like myself, but how do Theropods compare?

Theropods is a point & click adventure in the most classical sense, with an old-school pixel graphic style, and combining items until success as its primary gameplay. The demo is very short, but it’s enough to set up the premise. You play as a young, redheaded female adventurer living in a prehistoric timeline, together with dinosaurs roaming the lands that seemingly have an appetite for humans. When you were a child, your mother was devoured by a giant T. rex lookalike, which shaped your life to eventually take her place as a great hunter. Mom’s heroic act that led to her death meant that you and your dad could live. Compelled destiny, anyone?

Dinolords – Trailer

Let’s continue with the dinosaur theme, and watch the trailer for Dinolords! It’s a game that is in flux regarding release date, but hopefully it will be let free to roam with the other dino games this year. It should be noted that the release will be Early Access. However, from what I have seen, it sure looks promising already, so that removes some angst with it being an EA title. I mean, medieval RTS warfare in England, with dinosaurs included? It’s so campy that it works, especially if the devs treat the story with sincerity, and do not go full Marvel writing. The whole thing reminds me of the old RTS game Paraworld. A game that showed great promise, but lacked in execution. Hopefully, Dinolords will dazzle us with shiny T-rex teeth (and gameplay). Trailer after the jump!

Primal Planet – Demo Impressions

Primal Planet came as a bit of a surprise, considering I found it by pure luck when lazily browsing on Steam, and how much the presentation and gameplay speaks to me. Being a child of the 80s and 90s, dinosaurs were everything, and what is better than playing a metroidvania set during the dinosaur age to still that distant urge for nostalgia. The demo is a hefty one that really lets you dig into the mechanics, and overall, it’s well-designed, with a fun twist on the gameplay: you are not facing the jungle beasts alone!
