I want to believe… that there is a good X-files game out there. Believing is one thing, getting it is another. I’m not saying The X-Files: Resist or Serve is terrible, because it’s not. It’s not exactly great, either. Enjoyable yes, somewhat faithful to the lore for the X-Files buffs, with “janky” as its middle name. So, for everyone climbing on board, be warned! You will be in for a rough ride! Before anything else, some technical things.

The Complete Project Zomboid Lore Story [Film]

Say, how about a full feature zombie outbreak mock documentary in the world of Project Zomboid? It has everything from the initial conspiracy, to the failed evacuation of Muldraugh—so prepare your behind for a full bloody undead disaster time-line. I found it very amusing that Spiffo, the cute mascot, is implied to be part of the outbreak—at least the owners of the logo. I doubt this is canon in any way, but it works as any other explanation for the outbreak.

The creators (Undead Captures) made the film in a first-person camera view, in a low-poly visual style that works splendidly to capture the feel of Project Zomboid. Seeing as it actually looks like it could be from the game, but now viewed from a boots-on-the-ground perspective. Overall, everything involved with this fan project is impressive—from the motion capture for the animations, to the story and atmosphere. It feels true to the genre, campy, but still a serious tale from the apocalypse. It was very easy for me to get caught up in the story.

I highly recommend you check out the movie after the jump, especially if you enjoy the zombie genre, and have played Project Zomboid. There’s a lot for fans to recognize!

MENACE [Full cinematic trailer]

I'm here from the future to terminate you!

When Overhype Studios released the demo for Menace, they also dropped a small teaser that showed off the brutality of their created world—in part. Well, fret no more, the full length trailer is here, and it’s awesome (as expected). Sadly, it isn’t that much longer than the teaser, but it adds context to what we saw earlier.

Two noticeable things here. The sludge that grabs a dead (or wounded) marine around the one-minute mark looks really nasty and terrifying. I foresee grotesque body-horror in the future! Also, note to self, avoid everything slimy and bubbling. Then the second thing comes at about one and a half minute in—and it’s a damn Terminator machine, directly manifested from my “future wars” nightmares. Wow! Talk about the unexpected, and it looks like what the title of the game indicates: Menacing! Check out the cool trailer after the jump.

Resident Evil: The Lost City of America [Video]

Fetch your popcorn! A fantastic Resident Evil lore video by VF86 TV has arrived that tells the tale of Raccoon City in the style of a late night true-crime documentary. Serious effort has gone into the production, which makes it feel like the real thing. It’s eerily immersive, with slick editing, music and voice-acting—in other words: top-notch stuff if you want something spooky to watch for the month of October. Resident Evil: Caliban Cove by S.D. Perry [Book Review, book 2]

I have finally finished Caliban Cove, S.D. Perry’s first venture into non-canon original Resident Evil fiction. What is cool about this novel is that it picks up immediately after Resident Evil: The Umbrella Conspiracy, and it remains consistent with that story, and how she has written the characters so far. I didn’t expect anything else, but it’s nonetheless something that has to be pointed out. On the general plot of Caliban Cove. I wouldn’t say it’s the most exciting zombie horror drama I have read, but it works as a light, entertaining read, that is saved solely based on being set in an awesome franchise.
