Menace – Huge FAQ

Overhype Studios decided to release a huge FAQ about their upcoming game Menace. It contains many juicy bits, that makes it easy now to form what the game will, and will not, be. For example, it will not be a Battle Brothers clone, with an open sandbox structure. It will have a structured story campaign, with a beginning and an end.

Here are some notable questions and answers:

Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars by Keith R.A. DeCandido [Book Review]

Command & Conquer: Tiberium is a weird one. It was released at the same time as the third Command & Conquer game that goes under the same name. It’s a retelling of the GDI campaign, but in book format. However, the approach it takes is perhaps not what you’d expect. It goes into great detail explaining the life and politics of the average GDI citizen, with a small excursion into the minds of a few NOD members. Don’t worry, there are segments of battles too, but in general, the war is taking a backseat to world-building and the development of the main characters.

Chains of Freedom – Liquid Loyalty

When I tried the demo back in February this year, I was pleasantly surprised. I expected nothing, yet got an interesting experience for my time downloading. Now, the transition from demo to full game does not always go smoothly, but I’m glad to say that the gameplay is exactly the same in the 1.0 release. The story also progresses as expected, and this could be considered good for almost every game, which is it in this case too. What is Tiberium? – Command & Conquer Lore

After once again getting into the wonderful world of Command & Conquer, I decided I needed a primer on Tiberium. What the hell is it, and why does everyone want it? In short, it’s the foreign substance that bands the franchise together, and is the cause for everything that happens in it. It’s both a blessing, and a curse upon mankind, which is part of why I have always loved this aspect of the series. But, what exactly is this green substance?

If you, like me, needs a reminder, watch this excellent mini-documentary about the green death:

Deus Ex: Black Light by James Swallow [Book Review]

In my review of the novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect by the same author, I wrote that Icarus Effect was almost required reading to understand Deus: Ex: Human Revolution—at least when it comes to the finer details, and the antagonists. Well, in contrast, Black Light is mandatory reading. It’s amazing how many important plot points this book sets up for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. When I played Deus Ex: Mankind Divided back in the day, it left me utterly confused why I was in Prague, what actually happened after the Panchaea incident, and the general state of the world. Black Light explains everything, while also being a good book to boot. Minor beginning spoilers incoming.
