Zodiac Legion – Demo Impressions

Recently tried the demo of Zodiac Legion which you can find on their Steam page, and the best way I can describe it by the few missions the demo comes with is that it is fantasy X-com. The game is tactical turn-based, and while the demo showcase each unit having different stats and weapons, I couldn’t tell if there was any kind of inventory management. I suspect you will be recruiting based on classes, and that will be it, but don’t quote me on that. Hopefully units in the full game will be able to gain ranks, be upgradable and in that way go beyond meat shield status like how they come across in the demo.

Quasimorphosis: Exordium – Impressions

Quasimorphosis: Exordium is a free roguelike that was released on Steam for a few weeks ago. I have invested a few hours into it, and I thought I would give my impressions. I’m not a rougelike expert in any way, it’s not a genre that I have my eyes on. The only experience I have from the genre is playing Dwarf Fortress in adventure mode. And while I think it’s similar, it’s probably not really the same. So, going by roguelike standards, I do not know how well this game performs, unfortunately. The visual style it’s a mix between X-com, and Doom, all in pixel glory. Some clear inspirations to the story, and setting must be Event Horizon, and the Alien movies considering the theme. So far, so good, I would say.

SKALD: Against the Black Priory – C-64 retro RPG prologue

Demos – how I both love & hate this concept. It’s always nice to get to try the game you are looking forward to, but if it’s good, you are in for a brutal time of waiting since you know what you will be getting and being held backed from. SKALD is one of these games. While I grew up during the popularity of Commodore 64 – I don’t have much of a connection to it beyond playing the random game on its system at a friends house. So, this graphical throwback is not doing much for me from a nostalgic standpoint, regardless I do think the graphics look charming without having the needed nostalgia glasses.

Call of Saregnar – Demo Impressions

Call of Saregnar is a promising indie RPG coming out of Slovenia. However, there is an international flavor to the team since they are coming from all corners of the world, all the way from America, to New Zealand. For anyone knowing their RPGs, it’s pretty easy to tell where the inspiration for this title is coming from; namely Betrayal at Krondor. Which I, unfortunately haven’t had the pleasure of playing, regardless, I know about it well. On a side note, I really should sit down and play it some of these days, considering its legendary status within the cRPG community.
