Colony Ship – A few thoughts

I’m sorry for teasing a review like this, but as it is, I’m not sure there will be one. See, this game is just not made for me, at all. If it was a CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) instead of being classified as an RPG, I wouldn’t have any problems with the game. However, it isn’t. Colony Ship is much like Iron Tower Studios’ former game The Age of Decadence – in that it’s very rigid when it comes to class building, progression, and skill checks. Maybe less so, but the fundamental game design remains the same. An additional note to this article that should be regarded; Don’t treat this piece as a final critique, as I don’t know if any of my observations change for the better later in the game. These are just my initial observations and thoughts.

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!

With the 24th approaching fast I just want to wish all my readers a Merry Christmas. I can’t say the weather says it’s Christmas here since it has been constantly raining for the last couple of days instead of snowing. However, I do feel the spirit. The family is here, and the food, and alcohol are flowing freely (well, almost). In other words – there is no lack of coziness.

Watch out – Santa is out looking for naughty kids!

I hope you get a pleasant Christmas without any stress. And don’t forget, Steam has started its yearly winter sale, so let the hunt for that precious 90% off commence!

Half Sword Demo

How about an Exanima game, but in first/third-person? Well, welcome to Half Sword. Since it’s only a very early demo, there isn’t too much to it, but what is there is good. The demo also shows great potential for the future – if a game ever is made, that is (but let’s hope). After playing it for a few hours there is much to like. For example, how armor acts as armor and gives you protection, and that any form of melee feels deadly – even a spoon can be turned into an effective weapon. So, if you ever felt like killing a dude slowly with rusty cutlery, this is a game for you!

Chris England [Goldhawk Interactive] (Xenonauts) – Interview

Merry Christmas to us all, because here is the legendary Chris England to answer a few questions for us about the development of the Xenonauts franchise. As probably most of you know, Chris England with his company Goldhawk Interactive created the great X-com inspired Xenonauts (read my review here). The sequel Xenonauts 2 is currently under full production in Early Access over at Steam & GOG, and it’s looking good too. It’s expected to be released sometime next year (read my latest impressions here).

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous [DLC] The Lord of Nothing – Prepare to be Drained

Finally, The Lord of Nothing expansion is here! It’s the direct continuation of the storyline from Through the Ashes. That DLC had a pretty interesting tale about a group of ragtag survivors of the apocalyptic demonic attack on Kenabres. However, not very surprising it ended on a giant icy cliffhanger, which we will get to see the end to here. Through the Ashes felt smaller, while still being part of the bigger picture, aka the main game. That aspect made it unique. So, the question stands – how does The Lord of Nothing fare comparable and does it have a satisfying conclusion to the story?
