Grey Goo – I Got Gooed

I was playing Grey Goo, thinking that this game is pretty good—not great but very entertaining. Casually planning out my review, perhaps as a forgotten RTS gem… but then it happened. I reached part three of the campaign, when the game jumps from one group to another—to the actual Grey Goo faction. And oh boy. The game is separated by three factions, with two of the factions being fairly grounded in some kind of abstract sci-fi terms—the Grey Goo group, however. It’s like a meme coming alive, as you literally play as an undefined, boring gelatinous mass of sludge with horrible gameplay mechanics.

Terminator 2D: NO FATE – Launch Trailer [Trailer]

Boy, this one looks fun! Especially for someone that adores the two first movies. While I find Terminator, the better film of the two, Terminator 2 is no slouch when it comes to the action. Terminator 2D: NO FATE is essentially the whole plot line of the sequel—now in the form of a sleek looking 2D platformer made in exquisite pixel art. The atmosphere, world detail and the animations look to be absolutely top-notch going by the trailer. It’s set to release in two days (12th) from now on Steam—so make sure to warm up the mini-gun in time! Check out the cool trailer after the jump.

Syndicate – Corporate Assassin [Review]

Syndicate is the 3D visualization in the form of a first-person-shooter and reboot of the classic game from 1993 with the same name. While I think Starbreeze (the devs) managed to capture cyberpunk aesthetics and the dystopian corporate warfare, the story could have been a lot better. It’s somewhat disappointing, considering the rich setting the game has to pick from. What’s much better is the gameplay. However, this part is not without problems either, even if it’s fun. Before diving into the story and gameplay details, we will have to go over some technical hurdles!

MENACE [Full cinematic trailer]

When Overhype Studios released the demo for Menace, they also dropped a small teaser that showed off the brutality of their created world—in part. Well, fret no more, the full length trailer is here, and it’s awesome (as expected). Sadly, it isn’t that much longer than the teaser, but it adds context to what we saw earlier.

Two noticeable things here. The sludge that grabs a dead (or wounded) marine around the one-minute mark looks really nasty and terrifying. I foresee grotesque body-horror in the future! Also, note to self, avoid everything slimy and bubbling. Then the second thing comes at about one and a half minute in—and it’s a damn Terminator machine, directly manifested from my “future wars” nightmares. Wow! Talk about the unexpected, and it looks like what the title of the game indicates: Menacing! Check out the cool trailer after the jump.

UnderRail 2: Infusion [Lands on Steam]

UnderRail 2: Infusion finally gets a Steam page, which I assume means a release is imminent. With imminent, I mean, five to ten years. Because if it’s something the developer, Stygian Software, are not known for: It’s speed. Jokes aside, the game is looking great. Just check out that juicy trailer (is that ragdoll effects?), and the GIFs presented on the store page. The crafting system looks like something else, both visually and mechanically. I know I’m going to spend a lot of time on that, tweaking my gun until perfect killing potential is achieved.

What I noticed is that the title got “2” now. I might be behind on the lore here, but I thought Infusion was going to be a spin-off, and not a true sequel. This is new information to me. A sequel comes with somewhat bigger expectations, but I don’t doubt that Stygian is up to the task! Release date is set to “to be announced”, so probably a while out. Yet, it certainly feels closer than before!
