This awesome trailer for Star Wars Zero Company came out a few days ago, so let’s talk about it. But first, a release date was also announced, and it’s surprisingly close: 27 August this year. Only about two months out, which will go fast. Now, about the trailer, the first thing that stands out to me is the light comic style of the graphics, much like Xcom 2. It fits and looks good, going by the trailer—and well, the era it’s in helps with the visuals: late-stage Clone Wars era (a favorite of mine).
The next thing that caught my eye is the amount of customization, both for the weapons and the looks of your mercenaries. There seems to be a ton of equipment, giving me (once again) heavy X-com 2 vibes. Why change something that works? Then the trailer shows that your men can permanently die in combat, which of course is good, but I don’t think the mercs will be randomized. So there is probably a limit on how many you can lose, just like Jagged Alliance 3 before your company collapse.
Addendum
Since the writing of this article, EA has released a good overview on their site, which mentions how your mercs will work. It will be a mix of fully customizable operators to hire and “authored” ones, which will be special story related agents. So the best of two worlds, type of deal.
The rest of the trailer is gameplay and story bits, but everything looks to be very enjoyable. The little surprise in the end was interesting as well, showing that Anakin will be involved somehow. I hope not as a character in your company, as that will feel a bit awkward.

Now, we just have to wait until the end of August. I have wanted an X-com-like set in the Star Wars universe for the longest time, and finally that minor dream comes true! For more info about the workings of the game, I recommend you take a look on this official site.
