While Hell Let Loose is not a bad game per se, I can’t help to think – what could have been? Going way back to their Kickstarter, and pre-early access release on Steam, this game showed so much promise! It was going to be the ultimate WW2 tactical multiplayer shooter, taking notes from all other similar games before them, and expanding on it. It was going to be huge, with you, and your team required to work together, securing zones for precious resources to be able to call in the heavy stuff – like tanks, and artillery. Some of this remains in the game to this day, of course, but it’s just a shadow of what was proposed. 90% of the players don’t care and don’t know about this function, and to be fair it usually doesn’t really affect the game in public matches since in the end it’s not required to win.

White Pond Games (Urban Strife) – Interview
The isometric turn-based tactical game, Urban Strife, is one of my most anticipated upcoming games this year. It’s basically Jagged Alliance 2, with updated 3D graphics, set in the zombie apocalypse. So, what’s not to like? It’s made by the Romanian studio White Pond Games, and I managed to score an interview with the crew over e-mail. Down below, you can read some hopefully interesting tidbits about this upcoming title!

Urban Strife is another title to look forward to in 2022. It’s a turn-based tactical game set in a zombie apocalypse, inspired by such games as Jagged Alliance. It’s being made by White Pond Games, located in Romania. Unlike many other games I’m looking forward to, I have actually played this one since they had a demo running during Steam Next Fest. So this is not just hopeful faith based on previews, it’s surprisingly good, with maybe some minor questionable writing. For an example – the town you are in is called Urban. To me, that just comes off as weird considering the title of the game. Urban Strife implies hardship in a general city environment, not actually having difficulties in a city named Urban. It’s a bit confusing, but as I said, it’s a minor thing, and it could even be a placeholder for all I know.

Bless those that make single-player content for Arma 3, and one that surely should be blessed is the user Apollyon for his campaign The Bay of Hugeris. In this fictional campaign, you get to follow the two nations Sevincia, and the Kingdom of Masere, two countries that are not exactly on friendly terms with each other. One is communist, and the other one is more or less NATO-like, so as you can guess – we have a bit of an oil-and-water situation here.

Been following Tank Squad by DeGenerals SA for a couple of weeks, and it’s a continuous experience of getting impressed by their dev-logs. These guys seem pretty damn serious with creating a realistic, and immersive WW2 tank-simulator. What makes this title interesting, beyond what is presented, is their former game on Steam – Tank Mechanic Simulator. I think you know where I’m going with this. Having a tank-simulator with experienced game devs when it comes to repair, and general tank mechanics can’t be a bad thing.
