Zodiac Legion – Demo Impressions

Recently tried the demo of Zodiac Legion which you can find on their Steam page, and the best way I can describe it by the few missions the demo comes with is that it is fantasy X-com. The game is tactical turn-based, and while the demo showcase each unit having different stats and weapons, I couldn’t tell if there was any kind of inventory management. I suspect you will be recruiting based on classes, and that will be it, but don’t quote me on that. Hopefully units in the full game will be able to gain ranks, be upgradable and in that way go beyond meat shield status like how they come across in the demo.

Songs of Conquest – Early Access Impressions

The HoMM-inspired turn-based fantasy strategy game Songs of Conquest is finally here, or well, at least in early access mode. It comes with multiplayer, 2 minor campaigns, and skirmish maps against the AI. I’m a campaign guy myself, so this impression will mostly focus on just that. I also want to say that I’m not a HoMM aficionado. I have played the games in the past, and liked them okay enough, but never really got into them that much. Dead State – Fifty Shades of Brown

Zombies might be overplayed in all forms of media, yet, I don’t seem to tire of this horror trope. Why that is, I don’t know, but I suspect it has something to do with the apocalyptic setting – the melancholic stillness of the end combined with spurts of pure dread in the form of the walking dead. The constant feeling of doom is a nice atmosphere builder too and is never lost on me. I do ignore everything action or comedy-orientated though, zombie killing for the act of killing because of gore does not interest me. It got to have that human despair intermixed with existentialism to work for me. And Dead State got that in spades!

The Ultimate X-com Experience

There is a way to improve the legendary campaign of X-com without changing too much of the original experience. It works as an enchantment rather than an actual conversion, a bit like what the community patch 1.3 have done for Jagged Alliance 2. Now, I’m not saying my changes/mods, or the main mod itself is on the same level as that patch, but it’s based on the same principles. So, welcome to my take on the ultimate X-com experience!
