Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance [Quick Impressions]

Welcome to the weird Terminator future, where John Connor gets assassinated on a beach and never becomes the grand general in the war against the machines – in other words, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is based on the ridiculous Terminator reboot timeline. To me, this is a big strike against the game, but honestly, while in-game, it’s mostly a question of aesthetics. Which, to be fair, can make or break a game, but here it’s mostly a minor disappointment, then stay-away annoying. For example, the units you control look like typical modern US marines, instead of the cool sci-fi and Vietnam-inspired badass soldiers from Terminator 2.

Majesty 2: Monster Kingdom – Humies Must Die!

Monster Kingdom is a continuation of the Majesty 2 storyline, and all is not well. You would think it would be, considering the King and his posse of heroes single-handedly saved Ardania from daemons and other foul human-eating creatures. But as things go, no good deed goes unpunished, and now you must reclaim the throne, with some seriously questionable help. All in all, it’s more Majesty 2, but with one major difference in flavor, as you play the monsters this time around.

Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim – Monsters for Gold Economy

Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is shockingly enough a sequel to Majesty, which is a game I have not played. From what I gather on the net, Majesty 2 is considered a decline from the first game. Since I have not played it, a direct comparison will be lost on me. So, with that in mind, Majesty 2 will be reviewed as a stand-alone title, and I can tell you right now – this is one of my favorite go-to games when I just want something cozy and familiar when in front of the computer. I have been playing it for years but never managed to finish it, until now that is. I felt it was time. No more falling at the finish line, and no more daemons mocking me in my sleep! This time the baron of hell was going to be sent back where he belongs, regardless of how many tries it would take me. And it sure did take me a couple.

Last Train Home – Go East, to go West

The Christmas game is here, if you don’t mind the blood, the civilian casualties, and the general horrors of war. Beyond that, it has snow and that is good enough for me! Last Train Home is somewhat of an X-com title, in that you control a “base”, build it up, and equip your men in wait for harder tasks—with the mix of Men of War inspired real-time combat when it comes to the fighting. Does it work, and is it fun? Well, let’s get into that, but first a bit about the story.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command [DLC] Raising Hell – The Gehenna Rumble

The bugs are back with a vengeance and this time they are harassing humanity on the volcanic planet of Gehenna. Raising Hell is more of the same, however with the killing now taking place in an extremely hostile environment – for both man and bug. There is more than just the mobile infantry fighting the crawly critters this time around, as private money-seeking mercenaries join in on the fun. With money being their primary concern, these units come with a different flavor. They are as good at destroying bugs as their brothers in the Marines, making the case that the promise of coin can be a potent motivator indeed.
