The Dark Rites of Arkham – The Swearing Detective [Review]

The Dark Rites of Arkham could exist in the same world as Dreams in the Witch House, going by the visual style and gameplay. However, the one thing that crashes the illusion is that the story of Walter Gilman and the Witch is in The Dark Rites of Arkham. Don’t worry, this is not a best-of-Lovecraft kind of tale, even if most games that tackle the cosmic horrors of H. P. Lovecraft, end up becoming just that. There are many clear references, though, but the location and setting explain that to a degree—shielding itself from most of the been-there-done-that type of feeling.

Lost Key – The Path of Illumination [Trailer]

A friend sent me a trailer of Lost Key – The Path of Illumination—and what can I say? My friend must know me well, because this type of adventure title is right up my alley. It’s a mystery game, set in England, with you having to clear your name after being accused or murder. A big point of interest for the game is that it takes place during the late ’90s—an era that I miss to this day. Yeah, I’m becoming old and overly sentimental. On the visual style, it looks very pleasant, with a clear pixel-art throwback to the days of LucasArts

The only negative thing I picked up on is the critique their former game got for being somewhat preachy and stiff when it comes to dialogue. Not having played it myself, it’s impossible to pass judgment. However, if true, I hope it’s something they took to heart and improved upon. No release date has been set, but I assume next year. Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump!

The Dark Rites of Arkham – Demo Impressions

Welcome to The Dark Rites of Arkham. We are once again back in the hellish Lovecraftian nightmare of Arkham. This time as detective Jack Foster, and wouldn’t you know it. When investigating something unrelated, you stumble upon a horrible murder with a ritualistic nature. And… that’s essentially what we get in this very short demo.

The X-Files Game – I want to Believe

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of The X-Files Game, I must say, the name convention is not the most inspired. Even calling it The X-Files: Mulder-is-in-it would have been better than what they went with. Regardless, The X-Files Game is an adventure game in the style of Full Motion Video (FMV), which sure is a novelty nowadays. It also has the cast from the show, with both Mulder and Scully making an appearance. So, the question remains, is it worth playing beyond the novelty? Read and find out!

Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer – Biking while Moody

Kathy Rain is back. A bit older, but as sassy as ever. However, her sassiness has not done her any good. Her P.I. agency is failing due to lack of money, and her best friend Eileen is now estranged. While Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer continues the tale of the foulmouthed biker chick, things have changed over the years. Some for the better, most for the worse. I did enjoy the first game, except for the ending, which I thought came a little too fast and loose. So, will Kathy Rain 2 be a better experience, tying everything up satisfactorily, or will it face the same fate? Let’s dive in.
