Fallout TV show – Episode 3

We continue with the suffering. To be fair, this episode wasn’t as painful. However, it’s still not good. One reason is that they constantly mess up the tone. One example is when the water monster attacks the BoS guy and his squire. When the creature is about to take a chunk out of the metal-clad protagonist, the show slows down, the music becomes sinister – oh no, is our hero about to face mortal danger! NOPE. You can’t have any tense scenes, it’s not allowed, you see. One moment later the brooding music is replaced with Glenn Miller and the whole scene plays out as a comedy. All tension gone. Why must it be like this?

Fallout TV show – Episode 1 & 2

If Fallout wasn’t dead already through Bethesda’s meddling, it sure as hell is now. This is probably the worst slop, aka franchise-destroying sludge I have ever seen. Maybe even worse than The Rings of Power. To be fair to the show, it looks like Fallout, well, Bethesda’s version of it, so they got the aesthetics right at least. Beyond that, these two first episodes were terrible. Not only for being bad because they messed up the lore, but the show feels very amateurish script-wise, and on a “cinematic” level. The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham [Book Review]

If you ever wondered what it would be like to live under the alien threat from X-com: Terror From the Deep as a civilian, I have a book for you. Now, things do not line up perfectly, since they are set in different time periods; 1950 in the book, versus 2040 in the game. There are other things as well since The Kraken Wakes (Out of the Deeps in the US) is not an official book based on the X-com brand – but I got to say, it’s comes pretty damn close!

Halo TV show: Episode 6, season 2 – Women!

Episode 6 shall now be known as “Women of Halo”. Every single person of some importance, except the Master Chief, is now a woman. It gets a bit much seeing so many women in military roles. I know they had female marines in the Halo games/books, but not to this extent. That is not all, almost every character that drives the plot forward is now a woman. For a game that started as a man’s fantasy of a heroic soldier, has now been totally subverted. Congrats modernity.
