Theropods – Demo Impressions

Apparently 2025 is the year of retro styled dinosaur games, with Theropods being the third I cover this year. The others are Primal Planet (out now!), and Dinolords (coming in early access, this year or the next). This is great for dino-lovers like myself, but how do Theropods compare?

Theropods is a point & click adventure in the most classical sense, with an old-school pixel graphic style, and combining items until success as its primary gameplay. The demo is very short, but it’s enough to set up the premise. You play as a young, redheaded female adventurer living in a prehistoric timeline, together with dinosaurs roaming the lands that seemingly have an appetite for humans. When you were a child, your mother was devoured by a giant T. rex lookalike, which shaped your life to eventually take her place as a great hunter. Mom’s heroic act that led to her death meant that you and your dad could live. Compelled destiny, anyone?

The Dark Rites of Arkham – Demo Impressions

Welcome to The Dark Rites of Arkham. We are once again back in the hellish Lovecraftian nightmare of Arkham. This time as detective Jack Foster, and wouldn’t you know it. When investigating something unrelated, you stumble upon a horrible murder with a ritualistic nature. And… that’s essentially what we get in this very short demo.

Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer – Biking while Moody

Kathy Rain is back. A bit older, but as sassy as ever. However, her sassiness has not done her any good. Her P.I. agency is failing due to lack of money, and her best friend Eileen is now estranged. While Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer continues the tale of the foulmouthed biker chick, things have changed over the years. Some for the better, most for the worse. I did enjoy the first game, except for the ending, which I thought came a little too fast and loose. So, will Kathy Rain 2 be a better experience, tying everything up satisfactorily, or will it face the same fate? Let’s dive in.

Old Skies – Stuck in Time

After many years since the release of Unavowed, Wadjet Eye Games is finally out with a new point and click adventure game titled Old Skies. While still having a focus on New York, Dave Gilbert is ditching the fantasy element for a futuristic sci-fi city setting, with time traveling shenanigans as its centerpiece. I do enjoy the occasional escapade through the vortex of time. However, most time travel stories touching this usually end up breaking their own internal rules, thus making a huge mess of the narrative. So, do Old Skies suffer the same fate? Let’s find out.

The Descendant – Blast from the Past

If you ever want to play a somewhat forgotten sci-fi adventure in the style of the Telltale games, I got something special for you. It’s hard not to notice where The Descendant got its inspirations, seeing as many things work exactly like the typical Telltale adventure. It has characters that will “remember” things you do, it has a very heavy focus on story, and it’s fairly easy, going by point & click terms. If you hate these kinds of games, this will do nothing for you. However, if you, like me, loves a good dramatic narrative from time to time that does not have Dark Souls level of challenging gameplay, this is certainly something to pick up.
