The Descendant – Blast from the Past

If you ever want to play a somewhat forgotten sci-fi adventure in the style of the Telltale games, I got something special for you. It’s hard not to notice where The Descendant got its inspirations, seeing as many things work exactly like the typical Telltale adventure. It has characters that will “remember” things you do, it has a very heavy focus on story, and it’s fairly easy, going by point & click terms. If you hate these kinds of games, this will do nothing for you. However, if you, like me, loves a good dramatic narrative from time to time that does not have Dark Souls level of challenging gameplay, this is certainly something to pick up.

Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer – Demo Impressions

Kathy Rain has become older, as we all do, and is now running a private investigation firm in Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer. However, things are not going great, with her finances in the gutter. But as luck will have it, the struggling city she lives in is having their first serial killer. Heavy Rain – Monsoon of Murders

In my never-failing wisdom, I thought it was time to try out David Cage’s Heavy Rain on Steam. Now, I wouldn’t say it’s an entirely bad game, but if you have a heavy allergy to quick-time events, stay far away! The overload of this mechanic will probably kill within a few nanoseconds. I’m immune thanks to my passion for adventure games with a moody story. The problem with Heavy Rain, for my part is the extremely slow pacing, the fractured story with plot-holes, and the absolute lack of any challenging puzzles.

The Raven Remastered – Raving mad Ravens

The Raven Remastered is a remaster of The Raven – Legacy of a Master Thief. A game I have never played, meaning that this article will not reference that title at all, and will be a stand-alone review. The Raven Remastered is a point & click adventure game that takes heavy inspirations from the detective stories by Agatha Christie. If you ever read anything by her, or watched any movies based on her works, you will come to recognize plenty of stuff. However, this is of no problem, and actually enhances the superb atmosphere. I was ready to rate this game a five out of five in entertainment value, despite a few issues, but then the ending comes along…

Jurassic Park: The Game – Barbasol Edition

Jurassic Park: The Game is a Telltale Games production, so you know what you are getting when starting this piece of interactive media. It will be all quick-times events of various difficulty, spliced with stiff cartoon animations and the occasional point & click adventure puzzle of old thrown in for good measure. What it got, and what makes it unique, is the wonderful Jurassic Park license. And what do you know, they actually do a good job of using it, with a minimum of cringe-inducing scenes and flat-out lore contradictions.
