All Will Fall – Demo Impressions

All Will Fall is a post-apocalyptic settlement builder in a world that looks like something out of the Kevin Costner film Waterworld. In other words: Humanity has suffered a civilization ending event due to increasing water levels, drowning all the Earth’s cities under the icy cold saltwater. As things go, mankind clings on as a pitiful group of survivors tries to make a new home in this wet and doomed world. And it’s here where you step in, having to guide these castaways in rebuilding an existence for the remaining population.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising – Red Island Menace

Soldier, strap on your boots and load your rifle. The commies are looking for a fight! And this time, it’s not the North Koreans. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a really weird game. It’s a continuation of the classic Operation Flashpoint franchise, but now with Bohemia Interactive out of the picture. So, Codemasters decided to make their own version. The game has a slight schizophrenic feel to it, as it at times does feel like OPF of old. The engine used, and the scale and sandbox freedom is almost a carbon copy. In some places it’s improved upon, and works even better than Bohemia’s Arma series. For example, having units clearing buildings and shooting from windows. What makes it an oddity, is the console focus, and above all, the mission design.

Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter – Extermination Geonosis

Strap in and secure your hold-out blaster pistol. It’s time to once again set out to defend against the Trade Federation droids. Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter is a continuation of Star Wars: Starfighter, but bigger and better, with a more focused story that plays into the Star Wars movie prequel a bit more. Notable Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and specifically: the battle of Geonosis. Another difference in this game, compared to the original, is that the spot for the main character is now shared with a Jedi, who comes with unique devastating force abilities.

Star Wars: Starfighter – Aces of Naboo

I have a soft spot for the sequel movies, even if they are not the greatest. Games like Star Wars: Starfighter play into the nostalgia fun just right for me. An often major feature of these games is that, instead of playing as film characters or following the movie plot too strictly, they present the main conflict from a different perspective. I love this, since it expands on the lore, and provides insight (in a gamey way) in how others fared in the war. It’s usually from a grunt-side view, and being a regular Joe caught up in battle is very different from being a noble Jedi slicing heads off uppity droids. Star Wars: Starfighter is no different.

Manor Lords – Super Early Quick Impressions

Manor Lords, one of the biggest indie titles this year has just been released… in early access. Oh boy. I was expecting a full 1.0 release all the way up to the so-called grand opening, but apparently, the developer got cold feet or just felt bad about releasing it at this stage, because it’s truly spartan in content. There was a warning, after all, something about us gamers maybe expecting a bit too much. Never a good sign. Nonetheless, I decided to give the man 30 euros to see what the fuss was all about, and well…
