Singularity – In Mother Russia, Time Clocks You [Review]

Welcome to Singularity, a game with serious time shenanigans, horrible mutants with a taste for human flesh, and masses of Soviet soldiers out to kill you—both futuristic and classic brown-shirted ones from the past. The plot isn’t overly complicated, but it’s a bit of a mess when you start to think about it, especially if you are sensitive to media tackling time travel. However, being a Call of Duty style shooter, you don’t actually have to give that much of thought, since you are here to blast things to kingdom come—regardless of which timeline the enemy belongs to.

Resident Evil: The Lost City of America [Video]

Fetch your popcorn! A fantastic Resident Evil lore video by VF86 TV has arrived that tells the tale of Raccoon City in the style of a late night true-crime documentary. Serious effort has gone into the production, which makes it feel like the real thing. It’s eerily immersive, with slick editing, music and voice-acting—in other words: top-notch stuff if you want something spooky to watch for the month of October. You can check out the film after the jump!

Menace – Demo Impressions

Finally, the Menace demo has arrived for us to download and play like the tactics starved maniacs that we are! So, how is it? I would say it’s okay, showing potential for the future. However, the high boardgame feel of it really surprised me. It’s a game that is a lot more abstracted in combat simulation, LOS (line of sight), and damage than I was expecting—especially compared to their last title; Battle Brothers.

For example, “overwatch” has been dumped in favor of faster gameplay, forcing you to move forward instead of turtling behind defenses to ambush the enemy. Fair, I guess, but it also means that the defensive safe playstyle that I like is out the window. And it feels a tad ridiculous that my special forces unit when having action-points left after a move, say up to a building, can’t defend themselves.

Space Scum – Playtest Impression

I got invited to the playtest of Space Scum over Steam and after about two hours of destroying lizard mutants in the desert, I’m ready to give my initial thoughts. But first, it must be said that this version of the game is in a really early alpha stage, filled with bugs a-plenty, and a somewhat stunted AI (according to the devs themselves). However, even for feeling a tad spartan, especially in flair and lore, it shows potential for a nice Battle Brothers romp.

Menace – Pushed back again!

Just read a quick update by Hooded Horse (the publisher) that Menace will not be released this year. Brutal! I think it was set for an Early Access release, and I remember reading it would be out in 2024 already. That’s game development for you, I guess. However, it’s not all bad news, as a demo is being promised for September. If we go by the title of the Steam post that announced this. So, a while more before we get to experience Overhype Studio’s new game for real, but a small taste next month, hopefully!
