Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones – Cosmic Snorer

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is a Lovecraft-inspired RPG by the developers Cultic Games. I have completed this game once before when it was released back in 2019, but I got into a Lovecraft mood and remembered I had this game. But after spending about 10 hours in Arkham again, stuff is coming back to me why I didn’t like the game that much. It’s not all bad, though, it’s just a major disappointment for what could have been something good.

Games to look forward to in the Fall (hopefully)

With this year feeling like a wasteland when it comes to new and interesting game releases, I thought I would do a list of upcoming games that got my attention that might save this year yet. I got a lot of different kind of games on my wishlist, but the titles listed here stand out a little more than the others and has the potential to be something more than just a weekend of play-and-forget. I’m avoiding Early Access, and will only focus on full game releases. Also, this is highly subjective and is based on what I prefer to play. The ranking does not matter and should be considered random. With all that said, here we go!

Solasta: Crown of the Magister [DLC] Lost Valley – Animal Control

Solasta: Crown of the Magister – Lost Valley is a fairly large expansion for the game Solasta, made by the developers Tactical Adventures. I have not yet written a review for Solasta, which might come off as a little strange since I’m reviewing the expansion, but I did a let’s play of the main game on my Youtube channel. Overall, I did enjoy Solasta, at least in the beginning, up to the middle parts. Later parts of the game felt way too easy, and linear, which in the end actually bored, and kinda angered me. The pacing was so slow with all these filler fights that didn’t matter that it started to feel like a chore to play, instead of feeling like you were on an adventure. So the question is, how does Lost Valley fare comparable?

Rings of Power [Season 1, Episode 1 & 2 – This cost 1 billion]

Yes, I know, it’s not game related, but I just had to put my two cents in. I watched the two first episodes, and the only thing it did for me is leave me baffled how this show could cost 1 billion dollars. The scenery looks nice from time to time, and while it can look good, it doesn’t impress beyond that. It’s like graphics for games, it just doesn’t do it for me alone anymore, and most of the backgrounds are computer graphics anyway – the cheapest CGI there is. Been there, seen that, you need better art direction to wow me, which you would think 1 billion paid for.

Mafia: Definitive Edition – Cannoli Time!

Mafia – Definitive Edition is a remake of the classic PC game Mafia, and it’s made by the developer Hanger 13, which also did Mafia 3. While I do remember Mafia, at least parts of it, and I do recognize its cultural impact on the PC gaming scene, I was not that blown away by it back then. I did think it was an okay game, but funnily enough, the open-world fatigue had already set in for me back then, even in its infancy. Or well, you can say, I did recognize the pointlessness of having a big world if nothing is going on in it. A thing, this game is masterfully remade as well…
