The Blood of Dawnwalker [Gameplay video #2]

Another long-form gameplay video is out for the RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker to showcase the different paths you can take to complete quests. Just like in my comment on the first video, the similarity to Witcher 3 is still very palpable. Now, I have warmed up to it more since, and it will probably be an interesting gritty semi-grounded RPG worth playing. Yet it can’t seem to escape that “copied” legacy. If this is a negative, it all depends on how the world feels, of course. If the design is cloned from Witcher 3, it risks being an extremely static world where people don’t mind you ransacking their house for loot. The Blood of Dawnwalker – (strange) Gameplay Overview video

I don’t mean tiny bits of general gameplay here. Everything feels and looks like it has been copied directly from those titles. The UI, the map, and icons, the investigation mechanics, the floaty death-of-thousand-cuts combat, Hex magic and then the visuals itself. What the hell is going on here? I have never seen a presentation like this before, where every segment of a game being showcased reminds me exactly of an older title.

Vampire Syndicate: The combat

The solo developer behind Vampire Syndicate recently released a video about the turn-based combat it will use. It will use a modern Xcom control scheme, meaning it leans more into abstraction than being realistic with simulated projectiles and the like. While a simulation is preferred personally, I don’t mind the Xcom take, if it fits the game. Which, to be fair, it does look like Vampire Syndicate will pull off. From the little shown, I enjoy the scale, and the focus on all these different skills – from regular gunplay, to magic, since it will have ancient vampires ripping the head off people. Take a gander for yourself down below.
