Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown [Gameplay Trailer]

The publisher Daedalic Entertainment just released a gameplay trailer for their new upcoming game: Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown. And what can be said? The trailer is short and only shows us snippets of the gameplay and mechanics. As it stands right now, taken from what has been shown, it seems to mostly be a management game with story based decisions, which you make in a menu.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. However, I must admit it comes off a little flat to me. No tactical teams to send and fight with, beyond CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) picks when on expeditions. Yet, it all could provide an interesting experience, since space combat seems to be a thing, and getting to decide the fate of Voyager could provide some “alternative history” fun. Maybe you can let Tuvix live now, instead of putting him to sleep like an old sick dog.

Not to be a negative Nancy, the game still has potential. I was just expecting something extra, and usually, I’m not the biggest fan of rehashing old plot-lines. But it’s the good Star Trek, so it will probably be fun regardless. Trailer after the click!

Bloodgrounds – Demo Impressions

What is better than to test your mettle in the warm arena sand, beneath the scorching Mediterranean sun! Well, to do it in a fantasy setting of both Roman and Greek mythology. So, it’s not only men and women equipped with gladiuses you have to fear. It’s Minotaurs and magic-users as well, among many other creatures of legend. A bloody good time will be had—in both senses. Welcome to Bloodgrounds!

D.O.R.F – Infantry Combat [Trailer]

D.O.R.F is an upcoming indie RTS of the classic nature (think 90s) that I haven’t posted about before. However, I thought it was high time now with their latest trailer that focuses on the infantry aspect – my favorite aspect of any RTS. The trailer showcases their usefulness, how they might be used during play, and how much punishment they can take before the eternal oblivion embraces them. Things are looking good, and it seems tactics might actually be a thing, instead of just right-clicking for the blob to consume everything labeled “enemy”.

The combat actually reminds me of Blitzkrieg, in visual sprites, and animations, including the gameplay. It’s a realistic approach, but with the reins fairly loose to give the poor digital men a fighting chance. Check out the trailer after the jump!

Airborne Rangers – Devlog 2 [AI, ragdolls & destruction]

I made a post about Airborne Rangers back in April this year. It presented the initial announcement trailer that looked very promising. Especially if you are into military simulations like Arma 3, with co-op as the core. Now, the developer team BlowPunch Gameworks has released a devlog in video format that showcases some truly cool stuff. We get an impressive ragdoll/gore system, detailed destructible environments and an AI that actually uses tactics, and looks challenging to defeat.

And with that, my hype has doubled. Could this be the first realistic tactic game in ages – a spiritual sequel to Men of War that will be good? The future will tell, of course, but I will allow myself to feel a little hype. Check out the video for yourself after the jump!

Menace – Pushed back again!

Just read a quick update by Hooded Horse (the publisher) that Menace will not be released this year. Brutal! I think it was set for an Early Access release, and I remember reading it would be out in 2024 already. That’s game development for you, I guess. However, it’s not all bad news, as a demo is being promised for September. If we go by the title of the Steam post that announced this. So, a while more before we get to experience Overhype Studio’s new game for real, but a small taste next month, hopefully!
