Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia – Borscht for the Masses

It’s time for the final game in the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles series. We are now in Russia, and we will get to stick our bayonet into both proto-commies and Brotherhood members. A welcome change, indeed. Unfortunately, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia is probably the worst of the lot, despite it having the coolest setting, and probably the best narrative. It starts out relatively well, but then it embraces all the painful mechanics of the other titles in the series, and turns it up to eleven.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India – Punjab Adventures

The Assassin’s Creed Chronicles continues with Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India. While it’s a better game on a technical, story and gameplay level, I’m not sure if I appreciated the added difficulty in the form of assassination immune units, multiple timed events, and forced stealth segments. Specifically the last one, which I think ruined a unique aspect of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China. The mechanic that lets you continue despite your failures, but punishes you with a lower score. Now, that is still a thing, yet, way too many levels suffer from insta-restart if you make the tiniest mistake.

The Descendant – Blast from the Past

If you ever want to play a somewhat forgotten sci-fi adventure in the style of the Telltale games, I got something special for you. It’s hard not to notice where The Descendant got its inspirations, seeing as many things work exactly like the typical Telltale adventure. It has characters that will “remember” things you do, it has a very heavy focus on story, and it’s fairly easy, going by point & click terms. If you hate these kinds of games, this will do nothing for you. However, if you, like me, loves a good dramatic narrative from time to time that does not have Dark Souls level of challenging gameplay, this is certainly something to pick up.

Titanfall 2 – Colony Generic

It’s funny playing Titanfall 2 after completing Star Wars Jedi Survivor (and Fallen Order) since half the gameplay in Star Wars Jedi Survivor is lifted from this game. The wall running is a copied mechanic with the only difference being that you do it in third person. It has the same funky unrealistic level design that for the most part makes no sense. And it has the same kind of boring generic story that I couldn’t wait for it to finish. Actually, I think Jedi Survivor wins out on this one, Titanfall 2 is just pure suffering when it comes to the narrative. Star Wars Jedi Survivor had me at least a little interested at the end, but then again, it has a famous franchise to fall back on. Titanfall does not.

Ghost 1.0 – Do androids fear Ghosts?

Ghost 1.0 is a 2D platformer in the “Metroidvania” genre, and it’s made by the developers Unepic fran. It’s set in the future and your role in this somewhat cyberpunk: ish world is to infiltrate a spaceship hanging around in low orbit around earth. Now, I’m not an expert on this genre, even if I have played a few, so I can’t say for certain if it’s a Metroidvania game to its core, but I do think it’s a fair bit linear to truly be a Metroid-like game. However, I had a really good time playing, and even if I didn’t have to search every nook and cranny to find my way through the game.
