Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance [Quick Impressions]

Welcome to the weird Terminator future, where John Connor gets assassinated on a beach and never becomes the grand general in the war against the machines – in other words, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is based on the ridiculous Terminator reboot timeline. To me, this is a big strike against the game, but honestly, while in-game, it’s mostly a question of aesthetics. Which, to be fair, can make or break a game, but here it’s mostly a minor disappointment, then stay-away annoying. For example, the units you control look like typical modern US marines, instead of the cool sci-fi and Vietnam-inspired badass soldiers from Terminator 2.

Xenonauts 2 [Early Access] – Round Four

I said I wasn’t going to play Xenonauts 2 in Early Access (Experimental) anymore, yet, here I am. Milestone 3 was recently released, which increased the playable days from 180 to 260. However, I didn’t experience too much new stuff, unfortunately. What I did get to experience though, was the improved AI. And well…

Desperados III – I want to like you

Boy, I have tried to like this game, but the more I try, the more it pushes me away. Everything in Desperados III except the gameplay design is fantastic – from the visuals and animations to the sound and music. Those aspects are just chef’s kiss, but the gameplay is the antithesis of what I enjoy when gaming. The water to the oil, so to say.

Archaelund – Early Access Impressions

Recently Archaelund came out in Early Access, and being the starved RPG nerd that I am, I decided to buy it with full knowledge that it won’t be completed until at least the year 2025… or was it 2026? Either way, the game is far away from being finished, but even in this early stage, it shows promise and a solid foundation for the future. I also want to point out, that this is being made by a solo developer, which is impressive by itself. Let’s get into it.

Colony Ship – A few thoughts

I’m sorry for teasing a review like this, but as it is, I’m not sure there will be one. See, this game is just not made for me, at all. If it was a CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) instead of being classified as an RPG, I wouldn’t have any problems with the game. However, it isn’t. Colony Ship is much like Iron Tower Studios’ former game The Age of Decadence – in that it’s very rigid when it comes to class building, progression, and skill checks. Maybe less so, but the fundamental game design remains the same. An additional note to this article that should be regarded; Don’t treat this piece as a final critique, as I don’t know if any of my observations change for the better later in the game. These are just my initial observations and thoughts.
