Is gaming as we know it coming to an end?

Before I start my speculative rant, I just want to say that I’m no expert in any of this—this is just what I gather from reading news, and taking the temperature on the current console market (with PC hardware included) for the last couple of months. I try not to be all doom and gloom, but man, it’s hard not to! I think gaming, on both PC and consoles, the classical way, is coming to a brutal end, with a lot of suffering included.

It might not happen, with everything turning out just fine, like in the fairy tales of old. But if there is one thing life has taught me: happy endings are rare!

The Mismanagement of PlayStation [Video]

I watched this video by YouTuber ZackLillipad while sipping on my morning coffee, and it hit me that I need to share this. ZackLillipad goes over the most likely reason Sony has had such a bad track record of first-party titles so far for the PlayStation 5. It mostly comes down to the disastrous decision of concentrating on the horrible genre of games: “live-service games,” like Concord. A title that got such bad public feedback, that Sony cancelled it after only two weeks—talk about money and time well-spent!

ZackLillipad goes much more in depth, and talks about all studios under the Sony umbrella—what they have been doing, instead of creating great games for us to play. And it’s kinda nightmarish, going by management standards. Video after the jump!

Stop Killing Games – Video Games Europe response

As many of you might have noticed, the Stop Killing Games movement created by Ross Scott has reached over 1 million signatures, forcing the European Commission to take a look at the issue. The movement is altogether good, despite what certain questionable YouTube e-celebs say about it. Essentially, it’s a big consumer movement, trying to make sure we get to keep playing the games we buy, without dystopian publisher interference. Like removing access to our purchases. However, that is not my main concern with this post…

Wimpy simp Leon vs. Chad Leon [video]

While being a fun video, it’s one of the best showcases to symbolize the decay of fun, and somewhat edgy video-game characters. All to fit a “modern audience” (whatever that entails). A character that is now not even allowed to be a little cheeky towards the opposite sex. It’s a tough world when not even a self-assured super agent like Leon is given a pass in this sanitized age. What makes this video so great is that the modern remake is essentially the same game as the classic Resident Evil 4, but with a re-written protagonist to not run the risk of offending anyone.

He is not the only one in the cast to be neutered, but he is the stand-out character in this case. Although I enjoyed the Resident Evil 4 Remake, much of the cool 1990 to early 2000s personality was erased, to be replaced by a boring semi-depressive hero, rather than the collected one-line spouting badass that he once was. Check out the great video below, by the channel TerakJK.
