[Book Tip] Deus Ex: Black Light by James Swallow

In my review of the novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect by the same author. I wrote that Icarus Effect was almost required reading to understand Deus: Ex: Human Revolution – at least when it comes to the finer details, and the antagonists. Well, in contrast, Black Light is mandatory reading. It’s amazing how many important plot points this book sets up for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. When I played Deus Ex: Mankind Divided back in the day, it left me utterly confused why I was in Prague, what actually happened after the Panchaea incident, and the general state of the world. Black Light explains everything, while also being a good book to boot. Minor beginning spoilers incoming.

Deus Ex: The Fall – Falling Sideways

If we go by Steam, Deus Ex: The Fall is not a popular game. I wouldn’t be surprised if you found its name next to “disliked” in the dictionary. However, that was then, and while it seems it had a disastrous release on Steam. Nowadays, it plays fairly well, and looks a lot like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, albeit visually limited with restrictions to the gameplay. This is because of its origin as a mobile/tablet game, which speaks for itself. Even if I didn’t outright dislike or hate it like most people, it does have some problems, making it questionable if it’s even worth playing. Let me explain.

[Book Tip] Deus Ex: Icarus Effect by James Swallow

Deus Ex: Icarus Effect is a book that has been haunting my reading dreams for years. But finally, I found it for a reasonable price in a second-hand store. It’s a prequel to the excellent game Deus Ex: Human Revolution, that takes place before, and during the events of the game. So, was it worth the wait? Yes, absolutely, seeing as the story from a stand-alone viewpoint is already good with interesting characters and plot. However, the main pull is the world-building and additional lore to the Deus Ex franchise. On that note, it’s excellent, and I would almost consider it a mandatory read, if you, like me, love the mythos of the series and want to know more about the mysterious men and women in it.

Deus Ex: Gunther Vs Paul – A DX Fan Film + More

I was randomly browsing the subreddit for the Deus Ex franchise when I found two animated fan movies. The videos are made by the talented Leo Tierney. And according to the creator, it’s from the long-lost past of Machinima when that channel was the prime place to be for gaming related videos on YouTube. They are a few years old now, but better late than never, right? Anyway, I highly recommend giving them a look, seeing as these animations are pretty cool and authentic to the setting.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution: The Missing Link

Deus Ex: Human Revolution: The Missing Link is a stand-alone (if we go by the original release) expansion for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In the Director’s Cut version of the game, this expansion is integrated into the main campaign of HR, not without some issues, though – bug and pacing-wise. The story of The Missing Link takes place during the campaign when Adam Jensen leaves the Hengsha harbor in a stasis pod. In the HR storyline, Adam is unaccounted for three days, and in this expanded narrative, we get to experience what happened to him during those missing days. Like the main game, this expansion is made by Eidos Montréal.
