Tenebris: Terra Incognita – Early Access Impressions

It’s time to return to the bug infested hellhole of Tenebris. Limbs will be lost, and eyes will be poked out. This is truly a place of horror, and crippled soldiers seeking injury pay. In other words: Tenebris: Terra Incognita will make a man out of you, or well, less of a man. If you suffer from entomophobia, stay away! I played the demo when that was released, which I wrote about here. My impressions from the demo were very favorable, so does the full release live up to the hype? Full release as far as Early Access will take you. Meaning, it’s missing a few crucial parts, like a complete campaign, and a few soldier classes. It’s expected to be in Early Access for one year. Anyway, let’s check it out.

The Necromancer’s Tale – Demo Impressions

Ever wanted to be a Necromancer? Well, now is the time. Sadly, I never managed to reach that stage in the demo, but from my two invested hours, the Necromancer’s Tale showed true RPG potential for the future. I base this on the very interesting setup, good engaging writing, turn-based combat, inventory & loot, and plenty of skill checks that depend on your created character. Good stuff all around, so far.

Prince of Persia – Fortuitous Platforming

I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere. That’s how Prince of Persia starts, with the Prince wandering through the hot skin melting desert, stumbling upon trouble by chance (or is it?), seeing a beautiful woman needing aid. Good enough for me, very fitting for an adventure, but what I didn’t expect going in was how guided Prince of Persia would be. It’s really strange. The game allows you to jump off whatever platform you want, plummeting to your death. But to succeed in it, you just have to let go, and let the game guide you to victory. The platforming, enemy demon mooks and bosses, are nothing to the struggle versus the camera and your own patience.

Terminator: Resistance – Terminating the Terminators

The one big thing Terminator: Resistance got over Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is that it’s set in the original Terminator movie timeline. That means it has the cool aesthetics from the Cameron films. John Connor is still kicking around and is leading the resistance in the future war against the silver Terminators, who look as menacing as ever. Sadly, beyond the cool visuals, this game is somewhat of a pain to play and in general a disappointment. I would also consider it highly overrated, seeing as it sits at a ninety-one approval rating on Steam. I can understand the appeal, and I too was into it at the beginning, but the whole experience is filled with awkward design decisions that in the end completely sink the title.

Vampire Syndicate: Gangs of MoonFall – Kickstarter

It’s time to once again promote a Kickstarter. This time, it’s the vampire cyberpunk RPG Vampire Syndicate: Gangs of MoonFall. It seems very ambitious coming from a solo dev, but from what is shown it looks impressive already. It’s a mix of first/third-person exploration with top-down turn-based combat taking place in some kind of cyberpunk dystopian nightmare, with vampires. Right up my alley. I should warn though, there will be explicit sexual themes in the game; in other words hardcore porn. However, going by what the developer told me, you don’t have to interact with that aspect of the game. I’m not personally into sex-games, so I’m glad that the “degeneracy” is a choice!

You can find the Kickstarter here, and you can find the game’s Steam page here (You must be logged in to see the page, because of age restriction). And by looking at the status of the Kickstarter, it’s more than eighty percent completed already. So, this is most likely a done deal already, but that shouldn’t hinder you from putting in some money, if the title interests you.
