Mesektet – Demo Impressions

Mesektet is an upcoming point & click adventure game that best be likened to the classic title Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis—at least, in vibes and atmosphere. That’s the impression I got after giving the short demo a go, but I would argue that it’s perhaps a bit more on the serious side, as the LucasArts masterpiece can come off as a comedy at times.

Göbekli Tepe
In the demo you play as the brave, but somewhat careless archaeologist Elizabeth, who is on a mission to find some kind of holy figure at the archaeological site of Göbekli Tepe. It’s one of those things, like finding Atlantis, or the Spear of Destiny, that would turn history and religious dogma on its head. So, essentially, an enigma shrouded in a mystery with heavy stakes for everyone involved. This suits my personal taste like a glove.

Time to find priceless artifacts, and not try to ruin them

With the demo being short, which is understandable, there isn’t much more information to extract, except it ends when things start to become truly strange and unusual. If nothing else, it’s a great hook for the main game when that releases. By story alone, I can so far say this will probably be a fun mystery to solve and take part in. In terms of gameplay, it’s the usual fare when it comes to adventure gaming. Nothing too special here, beyond that it felt good in a classic way to play.

The presentation is very nice, with small moody pixel art cutscenes in between major events. This enchants the immersion to some degree. Another aspect that stood out, besides the charming visuals, was the music. It had this mysterious flavor to it of a foreboding nature, spliced with Arabic (or maybe Turkish) tunes. Extremely pleasant for the ears, and really hammered in the atmosphere. So far, it looks like Mesektet will be a title to keep an eye on. Let’s hope it’s out soon!

Thanks for reading.
