Some interesting PR has been delivered! Evil Has Always Had A Name is a short film set in the Resident Evil universe to promote the latest game in the series: Requiem. It’s a well-made movie that depicts the final moments of a mother and her daughter during the zombie outbreak, and the eventual destruction of Raccoon City.
If this was a stand-alone movie, I mean a full-length one, it would probably have been an excellent watch, but in the context of Resident Evil—I do feel it’s a bit too dark and depressing, leaving all the fun camp for something incredibly serious. The series has taken a turn where it now takes itself too seriously, seeing as they even write out great comedy segments and change characters for the worse in their remakes. Like in Resident Evil 4 Remake, to make it more like a “grown-up” drama, instead of the cheesy horror fun that was the original. It’s kind of a futile attempt, since the stories in themselves are campy—it just makes the remake come out as a watered-down version.
Another thing that stood out to me is how, in one scene, much of the city still stands, considering it was nuked to ash. I always had the impression that the city was absolutely flattened, but I guess not! This means that parts of Requiem, or future games in the franchise, can be set in a Resident Evil-styled apocalyptic wasteland setting. That would be something. Check out the movie below!

Thanks to Jonathan for the tip!
Honestly, one of the funniest things about Leon and Resident Evil in general is how even in the middle of horror and chaos, the style still somehow stands out 😄 While reading this, I randomly started thinking how iconic the jacket aesthetic always feels in these games. The whole dusty late-90s atmosphere, survival vibe, and character styling just hit differently.

Leon loves to look stylish when kicking zombie ass. It even translates to CGI RE-movies like Damnation. The latest game probably the most, considering how the ladies swoon over him 🙂
