Managed to snag a review code for the new turn-based tactical game Forgotten but Unbroken. I’m currently working on the review, but I recorded a short battle on Steam’s recording software in the meantime. Check it out below, if interested!
My initial impressions are fairly okay, but the game has a few oddities for an X-com-like. Things that I think make it a bit too gamey. Also, if you hate stealth, especially in a turn-based format, this is not for you – at all. Seeing as it’s almost required if you want to live through the missions. The combat is deadly, which would be fine if it wasn’t for two problems. The first issue comes from the amount of units the enemy has, and well, the deadliness of the guns seems to mostly affect your guys. Seeing a German eat three karabiner 98k rounds before dying is a bit off-putting. And it makes any battle, when the enemy has more men than you, a right pain in the butt.
Will get deeper into it when it’s time for the review!
The review is complete. You can read it over here.

This sounds like an intriguing dive into the tactical side of “Forgotten but Unbroken”! I appreciate the honest take on the balance quirks—enemy durability vs. player fragility is always a tricky line to walk in these X-com-like games. The reliance on stealth adds an interesting layer, though I can see how it might frustrate players who prefer to go in guns blazing. Looking forward to seeing your full review! Out of curiosity, how does the game handle unit progression or squad customization? Those are often make-or-break elements for me in this genre.

The units do get XP, both for combat and work in the camp. They also have stats, so there are perks and stats to increase. The perk structure is unique for the different classes, but I did notice that there is some overlap. On customization, it does not seem there is a way to change names and such. Otherwise, you can give them uniforms you find and get, and whatever weapon you think suits them. But yeah, the soldiers you recruit are pre-made.
