Airborne Rangers – Devlog 2 [AI, ragdolls & destruction]

I made a post about Airborne Rangers back in April this year. It presented the initial announcement trailer that looked very promising. Especially if you are into military simulations like Arma 3, with co-op as the core. Now, the developer team BlowPunch Gameworks has released a devlog in video format that showcases some truly cool stuff. We get an impressive ragdoll/gore system, detailed destructible environments and an AI that actually uses tactics, and looks challenging to defeat.

And with that, my hype has doubled. Could this be the first realistic tactic game in ages – a spiritual sequel to Men of War that will be good? The future will tell, of course, but I will allow myself to feel a little hype. Check out the video for yourself after the jump!

Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown [Teaser]

Now, this is not what I was expecting going through the AAA slop coming out of Gamescom. A game that might actually be fun. Once again, Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown is set during one of the better shows, which I think is great, but also hilarious. It seems developers and publishers have zero faith in that anything created in the modern Star Trek era would sell. I don’t blame them. It feels a little like the curse of Star Wars, in how nobody wants to make a game in the Disney era – with everyone looking back to the glory days instead.

About the game itself, it looks to be some kind of strategy space survival, where you get to re-live the TV-show, making your own choices, instead of letting Captain Janeway run the ship. Could be fun, could be total toast, but more Star Trek is never bad. Trailer after the jump!

Archrebel Tactics – Official Trailer

Do you remember Archrebel Tactics, the spiritual successor to Rebelstar? I interviewed Fernando Pereira, the solo creator, some time ago. Back then, it was a personal project with big ambitions, but it felt like there was only about a fifty percent chance it would ever be completed and released. One moment that cemented my doubt was when Fernando had to return to a regular 9-to-5 job for financial reasons.

However, that was then. Now, Fernando has signed with MicroProse to publish his game, and he’s been able to leave his job to work on Archrebel Tactics full-time again. That’s fantastic news, because the demo was very entertaining and showed great promise for the future! Check out the trailer after the jump!

Gothic 1 Remake – Xardas trailer

Alkimia Interactive released a very stylized Gothic 1 Remake trailer a couple of days ago, featuring the mage Xardas explaining the state of the colony. And it looks very good, with the narration doing a great job of inviting you into the world of Gothic. However, I’m in the middle when it comes to remakes and remasters, as for many of us, we already know the story, with the gameplay feeling like old hat. Four times out of five, it’s the exact same game, just “visually improved”. Yet, even that aspect can come off as questionable at times…

As it is, with this remake, I’m honestly hyped. The demo was great, and while I know the story, I can’t help but feel excited to experience the struggle of the penal colony once again. Much thanks to Alkimia Interactive taking the job seriously, which comes through in their video dev logs. I was hoping Gothic 1 Remake would come out this year, but sadly, it has been set for release in early 2026, So a while until then. In the meantime, check out the cool trailer below:

Fallout: Bakersfield Trailer

Spotted this over at RPG Codex. It’s a total conversion of Doom from 1993, to, yeah, you know it: Fallout. What makes this stand out is that the creator has taken the bleak atmosphere from the first game, and essentially remade it into a first-person experience called Fallout: Bakersfield. So no happy-go-lucky 1950s aesthetics a la Bethesda here. It’s a pure apocalyptic wasteland hellscape that has more of a horror mood than anything else. The trailer, which you can see below, is awesome, and seems to indicate that it will be a mix between RPG elements and pure shooting. Two big thumbs up for the “Ry Cooder esque” guitar licks about one minute into the video.
