The Council is a third-person RPG/Adventure by the developer team Big Bad Wolf. The game is set at the end of 1700 – a time rife with political intrigue, backstabbings, and societal change, basically a perfect setting for a game concerning world spanning conspiracies and secret organizations. And what a ride it was, for both good and bad!

Starship Troopers: Terran Command – Bugs!

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a real-time strategy game by The Artistocrats, published by Slitherine. People with bug phobia stay away, this game is absolutely riddled with them. No, not technical bugs, but bugs to shoot, maim and burn. Just like the movies! And as you might have guessed, this game is based on the movie IP, and not the book. Which is fine with me. I do enjoy Heinlein’s book, but I find the movie setting better. It has that brutal WW1 feeling to it, and the bugs you are massacring are actually evil. It also has one of the hottest military chicks in any movie ever. R.I.P. Dizzy!

Surviving the Aftermath is a colony management game set during the aftermath of an apocalyptic event that turned the world into a radioactive wasteland. It’s made by the Finnish developers Iceflake Studios and published by Paradox Interactive. Imagine building a fishing hut in any other similar game to this, but now add rusty sheets of metal, a plastic tarp, and other apocalyptic flavor items to the building, and you got Surviving the Aftermath!

When it comes to games inspired by Lovecraft, you kinda know what to expect nowadays. There will be references to cosmic horror, madness, and cults, and the environments will have plenty of nautical elements. Call of Cthulhu by Cyanide Studio is no different. Besides the trope checklist, is it still a good experience? I would say yes, even if this kind of story has been told before. The writing is solid, and at times it actually felt true to the source material, which helps with the immersion.

Kathy Rain is a point & click adventure game made by the Swedish company Clifftop Games, and it’s one of the coziest titles I have ever played – at least the first half of it. It’s set in the 1990s (a time I personally miss very much), and you get to play as the somewhat abrasive, but likable Kathy Rain – coming home to her town of birth to bid farewell to a relative. Stuff is not so easy, though. There is some kind of mystery surrounding her grandfather’s death, which you with the help of Kathy will have to solve to put this part of her life to rest.
