The Drifter – Demo Impressions

It was a long time since I was so thoroughly impressed with a point-and-click adventure game. And not only from a visual, auditory, and technical perspective – the atmosphere and general writing are top notch too. The demo was rather short, but it sure as hell left me yearning for more. Unfortunately, I don’t see a set date for release on Steam. So, who knows when it will be released? It sucks as I want more of The Drifter, and to be able to dig deeper into the captivating story of the wandering vagabond.

Rauniot – Wasteland Finland

Welcome to the northern Finnish wasteland, survivor! A setting that even makes the first Fallout seem like a place of joyous happiness. Now, the Finnish people, along with the rest of the Nordics (trust me, I’m one myself) are not the most cheerful of people, especially not the ones from the cold frozen north. So, with that, you can expect a tale of utter misery and human suffering. This is not Grandpa’s fun 50s apocalypse, this is Ragnarök in pure Finnish melancholic – and I like it.

The Thaumaturge – Rasputin Forever

It’s time to travel back to early nineteenth-century occupied Warsaw – specifically to a weird alternative version of our timeline where demonology is an actual thing. An interesting thing about The Thaumaturge is that it’s listed as an RPG. After playing it, a more apt genre description would be an ambitious point-and-click adventure, or maybe an avant-garde walking simulator if I’m going to be mean.

Abscission – Deworming Time

Abscission is an atmospheric Lovecraftian murder mystery with the flavor of film noir detective elements sprinkled on top. Sounds good, right? Well, to a degree it is, at least in the beginning, but sadly the pacing of the game changes for the worse rather quickly. In its favor though, the mystery remains intriguing throughout. So, let’s get into it.

Largo Winch: Empire Under Threat – The Life of a Billionaire Playboy

Franchises can be odd on a personal level. How huge pieces of fiction can exist right under your nose for years in obscurity, without you ever noticing them, even if the genre fits your taste. Largo Winch is one of those franchises to me. Before Largo Winch – Empire Under Threat, I had never heard about this anti-corruption-fighting billionaire. It’s a name that has spawned both movies and games (as you can tell), from its humble beginnings as a comic from Belgium. So, what is it, and is it any good? Well, good might be stretching it, but I found the title charming. However, you must have a fondness for puzzles and point-and-click adventure gaming, even if the game includes combat segments. Let’s get into it.
