Capcom DRM surprise!

I came across a link to the Resident Evil Revelations Steam forum while browsing the PC Gaming sub on Reddit, and well, it seems Capcom has decided to add some form of anti-modding DRM to their games. That alone is pathetic as hell, but it’s crazy Japanese business decisions we are talking bout there. You can’t get weirder than that. However, what once again caught my eye with this issue – is the issue of digital ownership, which mostly is confined to Steam.

Tank Squad seems to be in financial trouble

Tank Squad is a game I have been looking forward to and talked about on this site before. Recently they released a demo on Steam in part of Steam Next Fest, and with eagerness I downloaded the demo. Well, the game is in a very early stage, and while it shows potential, it’s far from what I expected. On videos and dev-logs, it looked so much more polished. The visuals are pretty poor, the AI seems to be dumb as bricks, but at least the physics seems to be there, somewhat. So, what happened here? One explanation for this is probably what I stumbled upon over on the Steam forum.

MENACE – Let’s Speculate

Overhype Studios famous for their game Battle Brothers (one of my all-time favorites) has finally decided to grant us a look at their upcoming title: Menace. There isn’t too much information as of yet, besides some game information presented on their steam page – what the setting and story will be like, and a snazzy cinematic trailer that sets the mood. It does have a few snippets of gameplay, however, it’s hard to determine how the gameplay will be from those brief clips. Take a look for yourself down below!

Swelter – Out Now!

Swelter, a free stand-alone modification for Half-Life 2 was released a couple of days ago on Steam. I have not yet tried it myself since I have a lot on my plate currently. But I got to say, it looks pretty darn good from what I have seen.

I have been following the project for a while, and if it’s anything like Black Mesa, it will surely provide a fun time blasting Combine troopers. The main difference between these two mods (besides Swelter being free) is that it’s not a remake of anything. It’s set in the same universe, as it is a prequel to Half-Life 2. However, the story takes place far away from City 17 and provides its own narrative. Just keep in mind that’s highly unofficial, non-canonical stuff, yet, it matters not too much in my opinion.

Timothy Cain YouTube channel

Just want to give a small tip here. It seems Timothy Cain of legendary games such as Fallout and Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura has started a YouTube channel where he answers questions, and goes over development issues on the games he has worked on. Very interesting stuff, if you have any kind of interest in CRPGs.

I wouldn’t say he has impressed me much when it comes to modern times since some of the games he worked on are questionable at best. Nonetheless, I highly recommend giving the channel a watch! Maybe he will invest in a new better microphone too, if there is enough interest.
