Hell is Us – Demons of Boredom [Early (Final) Thoughts]

This is not a full review of Hell is Us, since I haven’t completed the game, but I felt I had to give my opinion on what I have played so far. Now, when I tried the demo, I got impressed, despite the large sword-anime antics, which is something I’m allergic to for the most part. Even so, the story felt mysterious, and the world, while being fairly large with plenty of areas to seek out, still felt tightly designed with an enjoyable dungeon to tackle at your own pace. I thought the full game would follow this premise, but so far, that’s not so.

Hell is Us – The free comic! [Quick review]

Hell is Us is soon to be released. The fourth of September, so less than two weeks. It’s one of the few semi-high production games I look forward to, and might actually buy on release day, since I truly enjoyed the demo. If that happens, it will be a first in many years for me, which feels like a nostalgic blast from the past when this was more commonplace. Now, onto the comic. In a previous post, I told you about a free comic they were planning to release. Hell is Us – Free comic!

For those of you looking forward to Hell is Us, there will be a free digital comic released over at nacongaming.com August 6th. It seems to be a pretty important piece of lore, too. Since it explains why Remi, our dear protagonist, chose to abandon his job as a peacekeeper, before heading into the mysterious “zone”. Pretty significant stuff, I’d say.

I tried the demo when that was out, and I was impressed by it, especially its atmosphere and gameplay limitations – like not having a radar or showing where to go to complete quests. It just felt fresh and fun compared to many modern titles that always hold your hand. Hell is Us is set to release on September 4th, this year.

Hell is Us – Demo Impressions

This is a wild one. I downloaded the Hell is Us demo on a whim, and I’m really glad I did. At the most basic, you can say it’s some kind of Dark Souls-lite, at least regarding the fighting. What makes Hell is Us more than it looks is the very mysterious setting that I can best describe as something between the books Roadside Picnic, and the Southern Reach Trilogy. I found the atmosphere thick and weird, with a dark, foreboding tone that engulfs the whole experience in this strange land.
