Hell is Us – Demo Impressions

This is a wild one. I downloaded the Hell is Us demo on a whim, and I’m really glad I did. At the most basic, you can say it’s some kind of Dark Souls-lite, at least regarding the fighting. What makes Hell is Us more than it looks is the very mysterious setting that I can best describe as something between the books Roadside Picnic, and the Southern Reach Trilogy. I found the atmosphere thick and weird, with a dark, foreboding tone that engulfs the whole experience in this strange land.

Phase Zero – Demo Impressions

There have been many survival horror games made in the style of Resident Evil, with crunchy PlayStation aesthetics. But most have felt lacking, not living up to the hard-to-reach legacy of the past. So, I’m glad to say, after giving the demo for Phase Zero a go, it shows true potential for the future, while feeling like survival horror from the golden era.

Drone Sector – Playtest Impressions

Do you remember the missions in Call of Duty where you controlled a gunship with missiles and 20mm gatling guns? Well, now we have Drone Sector coming with this exact premise, but made into a full experience – with way less scripting and more to play around with. I always thought these missions were fun in the setting of Call of Duty, having the firepower for ultimate destruction from a God’s eye view. All Will Fall – Demo Impressions

All Will Fall is a post-apocalyptic settlement builder in a world that looks like something out of the Kevin Costner film Waterworld. In other words: Humanity has suffered a civilization ending event due to increasing water levels, drowning all the Earth’s cities under the icy cold saltwater. As things go, mankind clings on as a pitiful group of survivors tries to make a new home in this wet and doomed world. And it’s here where you step in, having to guide these castaways in rebuilding an existence for the remaining population.

Pompeii: The Legacy – Playtest tomorrow!

Pompeii: The Legacy is a city-builder I have kept my eye out on for a couple of months, seeing as it looks like a very classic Roman city builder of old. What’s also cool is that it seems you will be forging a dynasty lasting for the ages while rebuilding Pompeii from the ashes. Certainly, an intriguing concept that fits the theme of the setting. This is made by a solo developer (Siscia Games) that made his own engine for this project. Utmost respect for that, as that is dedication. However, the gameplay remains to be tested, but if you sign up for the playtest, it will start tomorrow the 18th! Here is a sneak peek video down below, if you are curious what it looks like:
