SpellForce: Conquest of Eo – First Impressions

Conquest of Eo is a 4X spinoff of the SpellForce series, and initially, my impression was great. But as it turns out, the game seems to have some serious problems in form of difficulty. The first few hours were awesome. It felt like a nice mix between Age of Wonders and Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. I was happily building up my heroes and doing some general adventuring when something foul and smelly revealed its head. As it turns out, the circle mages, which are powerful opponents, don’t play by the same rules.

Infested Fortress – Demo Impressions

Tried out Infested Fortress by Bitmen Studios, and it’s a hybrid of X-com and Dungeon Keeper, set in a medieval fantasy setting. It is similar to their previous game The Storm Guard: Darkness is Coming, but a lot more advanced. While it ticks a lot of my gaming boxes, it comes with a serious problem… just like Storm Guard to be frank. The problem is that it’s way too hard on normal!

Food for the Soul (gamer style) – Volume Two

Let us continue the relaxing with some additional great tunes from the gaming world.

Fallout got many iconic songs, but one that always stood out to me is Metallic Monks (Lost Hills).

If you listen closely you hear it tell the story of the world of Fallout. Marching boots, an air-raid alarm, and a combination of the droning wasteland -esque music it makes for an awesome tune, and a piece of great storytelling.

Tempest Rising – Who are the devs?

I, like many others, am patiently waiting for Tempest Rising since it looks like a nice shot at doing a revival for the RTS genre. But who is even making this game? I sat on the loo and decided to check out some info on the phone about the game, as you do, and I quickly noticed that it has two different developers. Not a great start, I would say, a game split between two devs – how does that even work design-wise? Is it collaboration through and through, or do one design, and does the other one do the technical stuff?

Jagged Alliance 3 – Ian Currie

In a rather surprising move, the team behind Jagged Alliance 3 got the original designer (Ian Currie) of the Jagged Alliance game onboard. Going by the video released concerning this, he sure says all the right things, and it got me more excited than I used to be for this game. However, it’s unfortunately not a recipe for success as seen before with games like Phoenix Point with Julian Gollop at the helm. To be honest, it all has become a bit of a meme, especially for us that took part in the RPG Kickstarter revival. Still cool, though, and another interesting thing is that the lead designer seems to play and like Jagged Alliance 2 if you go by the video. He mentions he plays and finishes it at least once per year, so hopefully, his love for the game translates over to the sequel.
