The Guild – Europa 1410 [Trailer]

I’m a bit late for this one, but I felt I had to make a post about it. You see, The Guild II is one of my favorite management games from the past. It’s janky, a tad buggy, but incredibly charming. Especially in multiplayer where I spent many hours with my sis—to become the top-dog businessman of whatever city we ran at the time. It’s a sandbox combined with an economy simulation, creating the ultimate medieval dynasty game. It has a lot of subtle trolling included in the gameplay to make it a hilarious experience—that might as well backfire on the instigator, to throw the victim into prison.

Now, here we are with THQ Nordic financing a new game in the series, called The Guild – Europa 1410. What has me optimistic coming from the failure that was The Guild 3, is that the developer, Ashborne Games has actually made a damn good game before with Last Train Home (which I reviewed favorably). It’s not without faults, but it showed that they can make a well-designed title, with an enjoyable story to boot. The trailer below don’t show much gameplay, yet the live-action is incredibly endearing, and actually shows how a session could play out from The Guild II.

Let’s now hope it keeps the spirit of the old games, while adding a new coat of paint, and perhaps fix a couple of bugs to smooth out the gameplay. There isn’t much info on when it will land on our computers, but I suspect next summer.
