The Evolution of Piranha Bytes’ Game Engine

I read a fascinating article the other day about the history and evolution of the engine created and used by the legendary developers Piranha Bytes, and well, I thought I would share. It’s called: Ore to Elex – A short history of the engine in Piranha Bytes’ games, and is written for the fan site World of Elex by Ravenhearth.

I wouldn’t say it’s the most in-depth piece, since it seems to have been mostly written in hype for the release of Elex, back in 2017. This means it’s also incomplete, as Piranha Bytes managed to release one more game before closure, namely: Elex 2. This title saw major changes to the Elex engine, which, at the time, really put my computer through its paces. Even so, being a light read, it’s a fun piece, especially if you have nostalgia for Piranha Bytes (R.I.P.), and their older releases like Gothic, and my favorite game of all Piranha Bytes titles; Risen. You can find the article here, or click the link above.
