Welcome to The Dark Rites of Arkham. We are once again back in the hellish Lovecraftian nightmare of Arkham. This time as detective Jack Foster, and wouldn’t you know it. When investigating something unrelated, you stumble upon a horrible murder with a ritualistic nature. And… that’s essentially what we get in this very short demo.
There isn’t too much to say about the gameplay, since it’s so short. It’s very point & click in a classic sense, in both look and mechanics. Beyond that, the mood and atmosphere sure is there for a 1930s detective story with strong cosmic horror influences.
The only thing I didn’t like was the amount of swearing coming from the mouth of the investigator. A little too excessive for a Lovecraftian tale, but that might just be me. Even for being short, The Dark Rites of Arkham demo gave me a good impression. So, it’s something to look forward to, especially if you want something Lovecraftian in your life. It’s been a while! It’s set to release this year according to Steam.
