Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer – Demo Impressions

Kathy Rain has become older, as we all do, and is now running a private investigation firm in Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer. However, things are not going great, with her finances in the gutter. But as luck will have it, the struggling city she lives in is having their first serial killer. The stumped cops are so out of their depth, that they are offering a juicy six figure reward for any lead that will lead to the killer’s arrest. A perfect opportunity for Kathy to save her business!

Kathy is back
I enjoyed the first Kathy Rain, except for the ending, which I think fumbled a lot of the fascinating atmosphere that the game built up to that point. Beside the ending stumble, that game was a cozy 90s nostalgic flashback, with surprisingly fun point & click mechanics and story.

So, it’s with joy that I can say that Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer continues on the same tone. It’s the same old Kathy, but older & wiser now. Yet, she seems a bit sad, and beaten down by life – but who doesn’t feel like that when your dreams come crashing down? And Kathy sure has a reason to feel mournful, seeing as she is about to lose her firm.

Nice looking office, and that is one fairly large guard cat

The demo isn’t very long, but it still manages to provide some classic head-scratchers, and I must say, having to actually do the investigations yourself and putting in the findings manually with the keyboard felt refreshing and cool. A notepad and a pen might actually be a requirement for this game! Big plus from me! Otherwise, it’s the standard point & click affair, but set in the late 90s now with beautiful pixel-art to make the eyes happy. The serial killer mystery seems intriguing as well, which makes this adventure title worth waiting for.

Thanks for reading.
