Hurray, Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy is out! However, only in Early Access. It’s planned to stay in EA for about 1-1,5 years, so it’s unfortunately pretty far from being finished. What’s here already, is certainly top-tier, and plays into what I love about RPGs splendidly. Especially, if you are like me and enjoy the more low-key approach to adventuring: think early levels of the first Baldur’s Gate.
Here is the release trailer to get you into the mood:
You can play it either in turn-based or real-time. Why would you ever want to play in real-time when you got juicy turn-based action at your fingers, is something I don’t understand. Yet, it’s good that the option is there, just like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Now, normally, I wouldn’t touch an Early Access RPG, but I had to give Swordhaven a go. And what can I say? It’s really damn pleasant to play, from slaying ugly rats to menacing giant lizards. That’s not all, I also find the writing witty and engaging.
I will not play too much more, as I don’t want to ruin the mystery for a future real playthrough. From what I have experienced so far, it’s going to be a great adventure romp. Like many other titles trapped in EA, now the eternal wait begins for the 1.0 release. With that, I want to say this might be one of those games worth supporting, even if it’s early days. Happy rat slaying!
