This will be a quick one, as nothing much happened in the episode. To be fair though, the sacking of Reach is shown, so we get a few action scenes this time around. However, everything around the fighting is retarded as usual.
The problem with the combat scenes is that nothing feels like the game, beyond superficial stuff. You can tell what is what, but everything included from the Halo games has a ting of wrongness to it. The Master Chief and crew fight without armor. The alien Elites are just brutes that constantly do mass charges like they are larping World War 2 soviets. No grunts as far as the eye can see. The Jackals in the games are usually equipped with sniper rifles, but here, like the Elites they come only equipped with plasma swords – are these aliens part of some kind of penal unit, I’m wondering?
The biggest annoyance that takes me out of the show, past the overly slow and melodramatic dialogue scenes that make me sleepy, is the scale of things. Reach is a freaking planet, and while it’s depicted as a fairly large city in the show, everything that happens seems to happen within a 200-meter area. It’s so small, and our dear protagonists constantly run into each other, when it feels like they are in different parts of the city. That is not all, the scale of the battles feels incredibly tiny as well. Actually, the whole show feels very small, when it’s supposed to be an intergalactic war for crying out loud.
Oh well, let’s see what they will screw up in the next episode. Until next time!
