Time for once again everyone’s all-time favorite – game music! (And there was much rejoicing). Let’s start with something somber, so here is Halo 3: ODST with Rain (Deference for Darkness):
A gloomy tune perfect for a slow Saturday afternoon that also fits the noir theme of ODST. One of the best songs out of everything Halo, in my opinion.
Gothic 3 is considered a pretty poor game, even with the huge fan patch that tries to fix many of its issues. I have played it many times, but compared to the earlier titles in the series, it just can’t hold up on the story and gameplay front. However, Kai Rosenkranz still delivers when it comes to the music. The tune Vista Point is just something else, and here it is being performed by an orchestra.
Perfect for that fantasy setting, shame about the game. Piranha Bytes did eventually recover with titles like Risen, and ELEX, though.
Now, this is a weird one. The next song is from the MMO The Myth of Soma. Way back in the day, I got roped in to play this Asian MMORPG translated for an English audience. It wasn’t anything fantastic, and the grind was brutal, but it got heart and a very nice community. The music was pretty good too, and you can hear the relaxing tune Thousand Year Town below.
A song I have heard a million times before, but still, hearing it now again brings me back to an easier time – when you actually were curious and hopeful about the future.
Ah, the Mega Drive. We spent many hours in a dark room together with only an old TV as a light source. One stand-out thing about this console was its music. Just take a listen to Boss Battle (Never Return Alive) from Street of Rage 2.
If that doesn’t get pumped, I do not know what will. Let’s continue on this note, and add Triceratops Trot (remake) from Jurassic Park for the SNES to the collection.
It’s not the original, but does that matter? The beats are there, and the remake makes the music truly come alive. A beautiful and fun dino tune that I think works perfectly for the subject matter. That’s all when it comes to music this time, stay alive and see what’s in store for the next post. It will be less filler, I promise.
